Help Jane Conquer Cancer - We Can Make A Difference!

Donation protected
Hi! This is Mike, Zach, John and Christine and we're raising funds to support our incredible sister/daughter, Jane, her husband Brandon and their beautiful one-and-a-half year old daughter, "G".

For the past 10 years, Jane has been quietly battling a very rare form of cancer and she now needs our help more than ever. Please join us in the fight!

Hemangiopericytoma is a rare cancerous (malignant) tumour that starts in cells that form the walls of capillaries (the smallest type of blood vessel) and makes up less than 2% of adult cancers.

Originally diagnosed shortly after her University graduation, Jane has since been forced to navigate the unthinkable:

  • 3 brain tumours
  • The spread of tumours to her hip bone, pelvis and lungs
  • 2 craniotomies
  • Gamma knife and stereotactic radiation
  • 47 rounds of radiation to date, some taking place in the midst of the pandemic and while carrying her daughter

Hemangiopericytoma does not respond to chemo or any other systemic drug therapy and is considered to be a chronic illness as there is no remission.

In lieu of a clear and proven treatment plan, Doctors have described having to take a "whack-a-mole" approach requiring constant testing/monitoring and case-by-case treatment plans. Beyond the hundreds of hours spent at the hospital, radiation treatment has lead to other health challenges, most recently, an extremely painful fracture in Jane's pelvis which has significantly impacted her mobility.

Make no mistake, Jane is a fighter! She has shown all of us that are close to her what it means to be resilient, that a diagnosis like this does not define you and that love conquers all.

Brandon, Jane's loving husband, has been a pillar of strength for not just Jane but for our entire family throughout this journey. To ensure the long term financial stability of their family, Brandon recently returned to school where he successfully graduated to become an air traffic controller (a program with < 30% graduation rate).

This is a huge step in the right direction, however Brandon is in the midst of his mandatory field training which only provides him with a partial salary. Unfortunately, it also requires him to be "on-site" in Windsor several days a week which is 2+ hours from their family home.

Jane has returned to work part-time as a pediatric dental hygienist out of necessity, however this is unlikely to be sustainable option on account of her chronic pain and needing to care for a toddler.

We are looking to our community to help raise funds, that will go directly to Jane and her family to help with:

  • Reducing the financial burden while Brandon completes his field training and Jane is unable to work full time
  • Offsetting the cost of Jane's travel from Kitchener to Toronto for regular treatments and appointments at the Sunnybrook Cancer Centre & Mount Sinai Hospital
  • Ongoing child care
  • Helping them stay in a home where Jane can focus on health and healing

We are eternally grateful for all of your love and support and any/all donations are welcome. Together we can make a difference!

Much love,

The Nagtzaam's & The Ho's
