Who is Janae, and why help her?

I’m a fun, late-blooming Florida girl, studying for the Bar while building a career that allows me to help others while becoming self-sufficient.

Throughout my life, I’ve been someone others can rely on to take action and make a difference. From handing out 500+ turkeys to families in need this past Thanksgiving to serving on community boards in my county, service to others has shaped both my personal values and professional path. Building on my experience as a social worker and my law degree, I’m now launching a mediation and consulting firm in Florida specializing in employment, landlord/tenant, ADA, and HOA matters. My long-term goal is to continue giving back as a local commissioner, finding ways to open doors for others and strengthen the community that’s given so much to me.

What’s going on?

I am currently underemployed and struggling to stay afloat despite active job hunting and referrals from friends. I have been looking for employment but there have been barriers like scams, hiring freezes, working with unreliable recruiters, and being “too qualified.”

My Health: Not having insurance for the first time in years has been detrimental. I have a debilitating form of eczema on my hands that makes simple tasks like gripping a zipper or combing my hair impossible. Luckily, it is under control, but the stress from everything plus studying will lead to a flare-up. I was also hospitalized last month for another issue that will require specialized attention.

Stable Housing: I am currently housed, but this is not a secure, long-term solution, and I need help.

My Bar Exam Fees: Registration: $975 (due December 15); Travel/Lodging: $600+. Expenses while studying: $5K.

Update: Themis Bar Prep was able to provide me with study materials. I was a rep in law school, and they have been great every step of the way!

Starting My Business: My health, housing, and taking the Bar are my top priorities. However, having the flexibility to generate income quickly while studying would be ideal.

Note: GoFundMe originally started my public goal lower and increased it gradually, but my real need has always been $6,000, so I’ve updated the visible goal to reflect that.

Final Notes

I have been working since I was 15, and I have always found a way forward. I’m not looking for a handout, rather, I am asking for a bridge — a way to get back on track, cover essentials, and finally move forward with the career I’ve spent years earning.
