Help to Support for Student Loan Repayment and Rent

Hi, my name is Jana Luna-Rodriguez. I am a 20-year-old first-generation student at the University of Virginia, currently a rising third-year. However, I’ve had to stop my studies for Fall 2024 in order to begin working to save up.

Starting university was a difficult choice due to financial struggles, and unfortunately, between car, home, family, and personal expenses, it has become increasingly challenging to manage.

I am currently saving money for the rent at my apartment in November and December. Despite working two jobs and actively seeking another, expenses at home have made it difficult to save enough. Additionally, I need to sell my car and buy a more reliable one, but it requires repairs before I can do so. My current car has broken down multiple times within the past three years, significantly impacting my college savings. Reliable transportation is crucial for my frequent travels between Charlottesville and Southwest Virginia and for getting around Charlottesville. I travel many times when visiting my family to help at home. There have been many times that I have felt unsure about my travels because I do not feel secure in my car’s performance over the years. Within September and October, I had to pay about $500 because of some car repairments.

I also need to recover my funds from previous apartment. Despite saving since early June, short hours and low pay have hindered my progress. I’ve managed to save $150 so far, but I still have a long way to go. I lost about $2500 because of not finding someone to transfer my lease to on time during the months of May 2024 and June 2024. I am in need of about $3000to pay off some student loans because of academic difficulties.
