Help Jan & Jason Overcome Medical Crisis
Donation protected
My name is Amy, and I have known Jan & Jason for many, many years. I am reaching out to everyone for help on their family's behalf. Those who know Jan, know this is an incredibly hard ask for her. On Tuesday June 11th, Jason was admitted to Cardiovascular ICU with a very high fever, abdominal pain, disorientation, & breathing concerns. His troponin levels were elevated, and he was in acute kidney failure. He was ultimately sedated & intubated so they could treat him.
Over the past two weeks, his health has been up and down, but he has slowly seen improvement. It was found that his heart was OK, but he was septic from a UTI. On Monday, 6/17 he started breathing on his own, but was still intubated as they needed him to become clear from sedation before they could remove the breathing tube. On Wednesday, 6/19 they were FINALLY able to extubate him, however, he was suffering from what they call "ICU psychosis" due to the heavy sedation. On Monday, 6/24 he started to become more lucid and was responding appropriately.
Yesterday, 6/27 Jay was transferred from the hospital ICU to a LTACH (long term acute care hospital) about 45 minutes away from home. This is necessary for the extensive respiratory care, PT, OT, speech therapy he will need to fully recover.
Jay will be out of work for the foreseeable future. Jan is a teacher, and does not receive a salary during the summer break. They have applied for disability, but it has not been approved yet and will NOT be enough to cover his medical expenses as well as their direct home needs. Jan & Jason have two teen boys, Raymond & Christian, who are doing their very best to support their Mom & keep Dad proud of them during this time. Friends have been incredibly helpful with supplying meals, words of comfort & support, as well as rides to keep the boys occupied. We cannot appreciate the assistance being given any more than we already are.
We kindly ask that you consider donating to Jason's medical expenses, and to keep their household afloat until they can successfully get back on their feet. Jan & Jason are both very proud people, and asking for help has been very hard for them, so I respectfully ask on their behalf. They are both a very large part of my heart and I love them dearly. I know they have both touched the lives of many, and hope that you are able to return the favor in any way you are able to even if it is simply by sharing this post!
Thank you.
