Help Jan Clutter After June 11 Van Theft

From Liz Kennedy: I’m raising money for my friend Jan Clutter whose van and its contents were stolen on June 11, a big blow for a low-income senior who has been retired for 18 years. Jan was one of the first persons to welcome us to the Woodlawn neighborhood when we moved here five years ago. Jan has lived in Woodlawn for 21 years. She is a past-chair of the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association and an active neighborhood helper.
It was bad enough to lose her van, but Jan Clutter also lost the contents of the van. She has neither the resources nor the insurance to replace all she lost when her van was stolen while she was briefly parked at the Park Rose Shopping Center. Here’s what Jan lost:
1. 1996 Isuzu Oasis Van (See winter photo)
2. A less-than-a-year old $200 cellphone
3. $400 worth of food just purchased on her semiannual trip to Costco
4. Van and personal emergency items
5. Pet supplies
6. A dozen filled Bottle Drop bags (To make matters worse, she later found out the thief hacked her Bottle Drop account and withdrew $200 from her account that she had planned to withdraw when she got there.)
Even worse, Jan can’t make a claim for her van because she has no comprehensive auto coverage because of the van’s age, and her insurance agent told her that because of the deductible on her homeowner’s policy, she would need to prove more than $2,000 worth of receipts for that insurance to kick in to cover the van’s contents.
The $5,000 requested is based on $4,000 towards replacing her vehicle and $1,000 towards replacing the contents of her car and associated expenses. I hope we can raise the money quickly and get Jan back on the road again.
It is never easy to ask for help, but when I emailed her about setting up a Go Fund Me account for her, Jan replied,
“I would be eternally grateful and would promise to pay it forward whenever I am able in appreciation of the generosity of others, no matter how large or small their contribution! If I could write a gigantic THANK YOU in the sky, I certainly would!! ”
