My name is Jamie, and for the past six months, I have been on disability due to severe spinal injuries. Years ago, I was hit by a drunk driver, and since then, my health has steadily declined. I now need five discs in my neck replaced, and I have two herniated discs in my lower back that have deteriorated over time. These injuries cause me to experience pain, numbness, weakness, and sometimes leave me completely immobile. Because of this, I have been unable to work, and my disability is expected to continue through the rest of the year because of the very complicated surgery I am having.
Disability payments have been a lifeline, but the costs of private insurance (since my surgeons don’t accept CenCal or Blue Cross/Blue Shield), a high deductible that reset in January, and ongoing treatments like nerve block injections have drained my savings. I am now facing the reality that I cannot pay my rent or cover basic living expenses starting April 1. Donations will go directly toward my rent, medical co-pays, recovery after surgery, and maintaining my medical insurance so I can continue to receive the care I need.
I have worked since I was 14, and it’s incredibly difficult to ask for help after years of independence. Unfortunately, I don’t qualify for a loan without employment income, and this fundraiser is my last option. Any support you can offer would mean the world to me and help me get through this challenging time. Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation.
