My partner and I have always worked hard to support ourselves, but recently life has thrown us some tough challenges. My partner is unable to work due to disability, and I was laid off from my job in October. Since then, I've been waiting for unemployment to decide if I qualify for benefits, but so far, there’s been no resolution. We’ve done everything we can to cut costs—applying for mortgage forbearance, seeking out food stamps, and visiting the food bank regularly. I’ve started a bookkeeping business and am actively searching for traditional employment, but while I’ve had a couple of clients and some referrals, it’s not enough yet to cover our bills. My partner is also in the process of selling property left by his grandparents to help us get by. Despite all these efforts, our savings have run out and we have no steady income at the moment. We’re at a point where we need to ask for help, even though it’s not easy to do.
The funds from this fundraiser will go directly toward our most essential bills—cell phones, which I need for my new business and to stay in touch with support services, home internet to keep my business running (since it’s 100% web-based), and other basic living expenses like food and household items. We’ve exhausted every other option and are simply trying to keep our heads above water until things turn around. We’re not looking for a handout, just a little help to get us through this difficult time.
