In Support of Jamie Olma's (Leek) Stroke Recovery Journey
Donation protected
On July 30th, 2024, Jamie Olma (Leek), a loving wife, incredible mother, and cherished friend, suffered a series of severe, life-altering strokes. This unexpected event has left her facing a long and challenging road to recovery.
Jamie was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, where she underwent emergency surgery to remove a large clot from her right carotid artery as well as other life-saving stroke protocols. Despite this, she suffered multiple (6-8) strokes, including a brain stem stroke, leaving her with significant physical and cognitive challenges.
After months of intensive care in the Neuro ICU and unwavering determination, Jamie transferred to Hackensack Meridian Hospital's long-term acute care facility. During her six weeks there, she regained limited movement and began to communicate through head nods and blinks of her eyes. Once weaned off the ventilator, she was transferred to Kessler Rehabilitation Institute. Following months of rigorous rehabilitation and hard work, she has regained the ability to speak and is slowly regaining control of her body.
Just in time for her 43rd birthday and Christmas, Jamie was finally able to return home to Monroe on December 19. Jamie's return home on December 20th was a joyous milestone, a much-needed reprieve after months of hospitalization. However, her recovery journey is far from over. She requires 24/7 care, including specialized therapies and equipment, to continue her progress. Unfortunately, a significant portion of these essential services are not covered by insurance. The mounting costs associated with her ongoing care are substantial; however, they are crucial to ensure Jamie receives the support she needs to continue her recovery and rebuild her life.
We all know Jamie is a fighter, and she is determined to regain her independence. She is a beloved wife to Brett Olma, a dedicated police officer of Plainsboro Township, and a devoted mother to Wyatt (a United States Marine) and Wren (a senior at Monroe Township High School). Through their support and that of many family members, friends, and community members, Jamie has made it to where she is today.
Jamie has been a strong support to many within the Monroe community. She dedicated countless hours to both the wrestling and cheer programs, serving as a beloved "team mom" and an invaluable volunteer. Known for her infectious enthusiasm and unwavering dedication, she was a cherished member of the Monroe Cheer Family, where she famously "brought the bling" by crafting stunning garments for the team and tirelessly fundraised for the program.
Jamie has touched countless lives throughout her journey. From her days at Arthur Rann and Absegami High School, to her time at the Old Homestead Steakhouse at the Borgata, her work with various Monroe organizations, her career at the Boca Group, and the countless connections forged through her family, Jamie has built a strong network of friends and supporters.
We are now humbly asking you for your support for Jamie as she bravely faces this challenge. The funds raised will help alleviate the financial burden of Jamie’s medical expenses, required therapies and treatments, and other unforeseen costs, allowing Jamie to focus on her recovery without the added stress of financial worries. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in her journey and help her continue to fight. We also ask you to share this GoFundMe with others.
Please join us in showing Jamie the strength of our community and help her on her path to healing.
