Hello everyone! My name is Jamie Hall. I am a senior legal communications major at Howard University from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Most of you all who know me know that I do not like asking for help, so this is a really big step and a pride swallow for me.
Here's my story: Last year, I had to return home from Howard due to some unforeseen circumstances with the University. While at home I continued to do everything necessary to be prepared for the fall semester. My transition back to Howard went smoothly other than the fact that I did not get university housing. My roommate and I scrambled to find a place relatively close to campus that was as affordable as we could find in Washington DC. We settled on a place, and I packed all of my things up in my car, and with the help of my uncle, we moved me to DC. Living on your own brings up a lot of expenses I was not necessarily expecting nor prepared for, but for the first few months, even though it was difficult, I was able to get through it. but then things started going wrong with my car, and health issues rocked my family this past year, leaving us all behind, and I have yet to recover. I am still a full-time student, paying my own tuition to ensure an on-time May 2026 graduation. I also work three jobs, but my part-time income has not been enough to allow me to stop being financially behind. As it stands now, I am one month behind on rent, with my December payment also coming due. It is a struggle everyday to try to combat these issues. Despite it all though, I keep a smile on my face and try to still be the light to the people around me because I don't believe that your problems should ever damper another person's day.
I appreciate anyone who has read my story. I am grateful for anything you are able to do to help. Thank you all! ❤️
