On July 20, my little sister Jamie was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and uncontrollable vomiting. She was admitted and is still there nearly 5 weeks later, rarely able to eat, and with frequent pain and nausea. She has now been diagnosed with stage 4 liver and colon cancer. Needless to say, we are all devastated by this news.

During this time, she has lost her job as a travel nurse, and therefore her health insurance. She has incurred excessive medical debt and is facing at least 6 months of chemotherapy, which will only create more medical debt and lost wages while being unable to work. Due to being a travel nurse, she has no permanent residence either. She will be moving in with her mother, who will be her primary caregiver, but she is not able to provide all the care Jamie will need. We have been able to find services to provide her with things she already needs, such as a wheelchair and shower chair, etc., but we will also need to provide financial support to cover her basic needs and other expenses until we can get her approved for government assistance. In the meantime, we are in need of some things immediately, such as transportation to and from treatments and other medical supplies, devices, and medications.
