My lovely friend Jamie has faced more than her share of challenges in her 49 years, with quiet strength and a positive outlook, even when life has not been so positive for her.
She is a devoted wife to Nick, auntie, daughter and a much-loved friend to many, including me.
Now she needs our help.
In June 2011, Jamie was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare and aggressive eye cancer. Within weeks, she underwent surgery to remove her right eye. Despite being told she was at high risk of the cancer spreading, she remained cancer free for 10 years.
In November 2022, everything changed. Scans confirmed that the cancer had spread to her liver and lungs.
Since then, Jamie has undergone multiple treatments, including ablation procedures and immunotherapy, and thankfully her lungs tumours are no longer concerning, but her medical oncologist has said a different treatment is needed for her liver tumours.
Chemosaturation/PHP
Jamie’s clinical team has recommended a treatment called chemosaturation, also known as PHP. This is a targeted therapy delivered directly to the liver.
This treatment offers a chance to control the disease and give Jamie more time and hopefully allow her to enter a clinical trial that is due to open.
Although this treatment has been recommended by NICE for people with her type of cancer, it is not yet available on the NHS due to delays in the funding process. This means the only way for Jamie to access it is privately.
Each cycle of treatment costs £40,000, and a minimum of three cycles is needed, bringing the total to £120,000. There will also be additional costs, including scans, travel and ongoing care.
Time is critical.
To get Jamie started on treatment as quickly as possible, we are aiming to raise an initial £80,000. As we reach this, we will increase the target to cover the full course.
There are no guarantees with cancer treatment, but this is one of the few options available to her, and it has been recommended by her oncologist as the best next step.
How you can help
Since July 2025, Jamie has been quietly trying to fundraise for her treatment on her own, originally through JustGiving. She is the kind of person who always puts others first, and asking for help does not come naturally to her.
As her friend, I couldn’t watch her carry this alone. I’ve taken this on so she has one less thing to worry about, and so we can come together to give her the best possible chance of accessing this treatment.
We have now paused new donations on JustGiving and included the amount already raised here, so this can be the main page for her fundraising going forward.
Jamie has lived with the uncertainty of this disease for many years. The risk of it returning has shaped some of the most important decisions in her life, including the difficult decision not to have children with her husband.
Despite everything, she has built a life full of love, strength and resilience. Now she is facing one of the toughest moments yet.
Your support will help Jamie access treatment without delay, and give her the chance for more time, more moments, and more memories with the people she loves.
Should other promising treatment options become available for Jamie, this fundraising will also help support those opportunities. However, if their situation changes, these funds will be used to support Jamie and her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a real difference.
If you’re not able to donate, sharing this page would mean a great deal and could help reach someone who can.
Thank you for your kindness, support and generosity
