My name is James McKinney, and I’m about to turn 35 on May 14. I live with my five cats—my furry family. It started with just two, but as you can imagine, life had other plans! My mom always told me to find good homes for them, but I got attached. I wouldn’t change a thing; seeing them grow from tiny kittens to big, healthy loafs has brought me so much joy.
I’m also proud to say I’m going on seven years sober. I’ve lost close friends to addiction, and I remember the day I drove myself to rehab. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I wanted to live. My car sat outside for 36 days while I fought through withdrawal and found hope again. That decision changed my life, and I’m grateful every day for the second chance.
Recently, I had major back surgery to fix two blown discs and remove bone fragments. The procedure took four hours, and the doctors had to cut away damaged nerves in my right leg. Now, I wear a back brace and a foot brace due to foot drop, and I’ll need them for at least six more weeks. I’ve been out of work for a month and a half, and the bills are piling up. I’m struggling to keep up with utilities, medical expenses, living costs, and caring for my cats while I recover.
I’m asking for your support to help me get through this tough time. Any donation, big or small, will make a difference and help me stay afloat until I can get back on my feet. Thank you for reading my story and for any help you can give.
