Hi everyone,
Earlier this year, my life changed dramatically when USAID projects were abruptly ended. Federal funds were ceased, preventing my former employer and similar entities from being paid for already-implemented work, and led to mass layoffs, including mine. I’ve worked hard in my career and always tried to plan ahead, but this sudden loss was something I couldn’t have prepared for.
Since then, I’ve been applying for jobs every single day across multiple industries, refining my resume, and seeking advice wherever I can. Despite all my efforts, I haven’t secured a new position yet. In the meantime, I’ve drained my 401k, taken out loans where possible, had my car repossessed, faced the loss of my grandmother, and exhausted my unemployment benefits. I've also created a campaign before in the hopes of a miracle coming through but eventually gave up because I felt bad for needing to ask for help.
Right now, my biggest priority is keeping a roof over my head without putting my roommates in an impossible position. They can’t afford to cover my share, and I don’t want them to be burdened financially because of my situation.
Here’s what I need help with:
Rent: $468/month
Utilities: on average $80–$120/month between internet, water/sewage, trash/recycling, and electricity, plus renter's insurance. As it gets colder outside, electricity costs will spike.
Groceries: about $200/month
I’m setting a goal of $2,500 to cover two to three months of these basic expenses while I continue my job search. This will give me enough breathing room to focus on finding stable work without risking housing for myself or my roommates.
If this campaign exceeds its goal, any extra funds will either go toward a small savings buffer for emergencies or to help my parents, who are dealing with health and financial challenges of their own.
I’m hopeful that things will turn around soon—I’m committed to finding work and rebuilding. I just need help getting through this critical period so I can stay stable and eventually support others.
If you’re able to donate, even a small amount will make a huge difference. If you can’t contribute, sharing this campaign would mean the world to me.
Thank you for your kindness and support—I’m staying optimistic, and your help gives me hope.
Sincerely,
James
