James has a visual condition called exotropia, which causes his brain to shut off one eye when reading or focusing up close. Instead of using both eyes together, his brain alternates between them, making it difficult for him to process visual information the way he should. This affects more than just reading—his depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to see in 3D are all impacted. He isn’t able to use 3D glasses, and tasks that require both eyes working together are much harder for him.
The good news is that vision therapy can help retrain his brain to work with both eyes properly—but this therapy is expensive, and we need help to make it happen.
We are hoping to enroll him in a 28-week vision therapy program starting October 1st. This program includes therapy sessions and five check-ups with his eye doctor, including two follow-ups to ensure his progress stays on track. The full cost is $5,225, with a deposit due on October 1st and the final amount due by March 18th.
Despite our financial struggles, we are doing everything we can to make this work. My husband has been unable to work since November 2023 due to degenerative disk disease. This condition affects him every day, causing severe sciatica pain that sometimes leaves him unable to walk. Despite this, he is a trooper—he bakes, does household chores, and spends time with the kids every day, pushing through the pain as best he can.
We have a plan to save at least $1,500 by March 18th, and we will continue to contribute more as we can. I take on as many side jobs as possible, mainly delivery work, to help cover the cost. Since we are actively putting in our own contributions, the total amount needed will be listed as $5,225 from the start. This allows for full transparency—every donation will go directly toward reducing that number, and we will update the page regularly to reflect all savings and progress.
We are asking for support from our friends, family, and community to help give our son the chance to strengthen his vision and improve his quality of life. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to getting him the help he needs.
We truly understand how hard it can be these days. Sharing this page would also mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can offer.
