Help James Nichols Get Wheelchair Accessible Van

As our wedding day approaches, a question we have been consistently asked by those dear to us is,  “What can I get you for your wedding?” Normally, as a gushing bride (for the very first time) I would have an exciting list of goodies to inspire my new marriage.

Candidly speaking, the last 11 months have brought Marcellus and I closer than I could ever imagine.  We are stronger, more in love, and we’ve learned to lean on each other in a beautiful new way. As my anchor, he has been the chest that I've repeatedly cried out to God on. While my dad is my Original (OG) Superman, Marcellus is my new Superman and he has reminded me several times, “Sweetheart, we put family first, let me help you and your brother take care of dad. We’re in this together.”

We both agreed that the most exciting gift that you could bless us with would be wrapping your arms around my father right now as he navigates through the most challenging journey of his life.

My dear superman, my safe-haven that I call daddy…the man who has played competitive tennis for over 40 years…in a bowling league for over 32 years…the man who taught me and his nieces how to cha-cha by standing us up on his feet to guide us… on May 8th, 2021 had a stroke while driving and broke his neck in two places and severely fractured his spine. Hanging on for dear life, my dad laid motionless in the ICU for 63 days. He was unable to move any parts of his body, undergoing 6 surgeries and even needing to be resuscitated 3 times before he “graduated” to phase two of his healing journey.

He had to learn how to speak again, move his neck at will, and even remember who he is and what had happened to him. After 8 long months in various medical facilities, my dad has recently returned home. Currently he is a paraplegic and requires total assistance, but he continues to make progress every day and fights to regain his quality of life.

My father truly prepared me for my husband. Just 14 days before his accident, my father was working out with Marcellus and I in the Bahamas, preparing to walk me down the aisle and proudly give me away to become Mrs. Hall. Today that may look differently. However, Marcellus and I can’t think of any gift that we would want more than to give my dear dad a little more independence. Allowing him to move through the house freely at his own will, and even though he would still require a driver, the hassle of hiring a wheelchair transportation service would be something that dad doesn’t have to worry about any longer.

So whatever you would have thought to spend blessing Marcellus and I with a loving wedding gift, please consider blessing my dad instead by donating whatever feels good to you. We are writing all of the names of his earth angels who donate on a huge card so that he can see how loved he is.

Thank you for allowing me to share our story with you and for your consideration.

We are incredibly blessed to have you in our lives, and we’re looking forward to celebrating this life-giving experience with you by our sides.

Thank you-Love you!
Lisa and Marcellus,
