Let's Help James Nelson in His Time of Need

James has always been there for others—now it’s our turn to be there for him.

On Tuesday morning, February 18th, James suffered the heartbreaking loss of his beloved mother. During this incredibly difficult time, we want to rally around our brother in music with love and support.

As one of Charlotte’s most talented, versatile, and dedicated guitar players and music instructors, James has been a core part of our Ballantyne School of Music family since our journey began in 2013. He has poured his heart and soul into teaching, inspiring students, and giving back to the music community.

James is like a son to me. I've known him since he was a teenager jamming for hours at Guitar Center in Matthews and rocking out on stage at Tremont Music Hall. And, now that he's a music teacher, I get to hear him share his gift with students, sing silly lyrics to songs, and play "badly" on purpose with my other music instructors in the lobby during breaks. We all know that James is special in all of the best ways, and we are hurting for him right now.

Beyond his work as an instructor, James has generously dedicated his time and talents to countless charity music events—never asking for compensation, but always showing up out of love for his community and a deep desire to make a difference through music.

Now, James needs our help. The unexpected loss of a loved one comes with not only emotional pain but also financial burdens. We are asking friends, students, fellow musicians, and kind-hearted supporters to come together and give whatever they can to help James through this unimaginably difficult time.
