Help James Kamau Finish His Ecology Degree in Kenya
Donation protected
Please help James Kamau complete his graduate degree in Ecology at Kenyatta University.
We met James in April 2024 when he accompanied us as an environmental biology guide on a 3 week Kenya trip planned by our friends Kavita and Nick. James is their good friend who they had met through the young Rotarian (Rotaract) organization in Kenya.
A few years ago, James put off finishing the last year of his Master’s degree as he had to drop out to pay tuition for his two younger siblings which he still supports. He must now enroll to finish his studies and pay his own tuition by January. We offered to help by starting a go-fund-me, otherwise his two years of work towards his degree will be forfeited.
James is a remarkable person, with a vast depth of knowledge of Kenyan flora and fauna, history and society. He is a blast to travel with (3 weeks crammed in a van couldn’t have been more fun). He is deeply involved in his community with the founding and leadership of two volunteer organizations in Kenya. The Millennial Environmentalists are a group of young Kenyans who are committed to reforestation, water conservation and preserving traditional knowledge and farming practices. One of their campaigns encourages people to collect and plant seeds from eaten fruit (we had a large collection after our trip). They have led tree planting efforts (over 237,000 trees), engaged over 400 youth volunteers and successfully established nurseries to provide free trees to the community.
Right out of high school, he and a group of 3 friends started Ready Aiders Foundation, to provide free services for families that have autistic children. All his work with these organizations is as a volunteer.
James is a young Kenyan who is on a path to become an important leader in his country. Please help him complete his degree by making a contribution.
