Hi my name is Mel and I am fundraising for James Oakley. James Oakley is 47 years old, a devoted father of four young children, and someone who has always put others first. Over many years, James has generously given his time and energy to fundraising for numerous charities—most notably prostate cancer research—never imagining he would one day face this diagnosis himself.

James has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and has been offered a highly specialised, potentially life-saving procedure. Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance and comes at a cost of $22,500. Then there will be loss of earnings as he recovers from the surgery.

The procedure is being provided by leading specialist Professor Nathan Lawrentschuk, who has trained extensively overseas where this treatment is used successfully in specific and unique cases. It uses targeted electrical currents to destroy the tumour cells while minimising the risk of cancer spread and avoiding complete removal of the prostate—offering James the best possible outcome and quality of life for the future.

James has always been there for others. Now, he and his young family need support.
