Help James Bird Record "Riddles"

My name is James Bird and I am reaching out for support to record and release my debut album "Riddles" !

Riddles is a mythical rite of passage that guides us through the labyrinth of the psyche. It's as if we follow an ancient bard through the dark forest, journeying through time, accompanying many mythological beings like Inanna, Circe, Tammuz, Iris, Mnemosyne, Echo and Narcissus, while asking some of life's biggest questions about love, loss, friendship, death & rebirth.

These songs came to me over a four year period, starting at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. Writing Riddles was a mysterious and unintentional process of songs often appearing suddenly out of nowhere and strangely fitting together like puzzle pieces. These songs have been a balm to my heart, my own personal refuge in the strange times we've been inhabiting.

It's been a journey to play these songs live in a variety of spaces; to offer these spells into a group feeling field and feel what they call forth in us. I believe that to be the unifying power of invoking myth with music; for we all navigate these same archetypal mysteries and feelings, regardless of who we are or where we are from.

After holding these songs close to my heart for four years, it finally feels like time to let them go; the songs feel ripe for sharing. I want this journey to be free to move independently from me; for this music to be available as a companion to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

The journey to record Riddles has been a wild experience... This process has broken me open and put me back together more times than I can count. Now, the pieces have landed and a way forward has finally opened.

This funding will be going toward recording at Ghost Hit Studio (May 26-29, 2024), mixing, mastering and distributing. Along with compensating musicians who will be featured on the record, such as Charlotte Malin, Annie Sumi and Travis Knapp. More TBA.
