Help James after Sudden Loss of Wife Linda

Donation protected
Hello everyone, and thank you for visiting our donation page. I’m writing on behalf of James Lamp II (Jimi), and his father James Sr., who is in need of emergency funding after his wife of over 50 years, Linda, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in the home that James Sr. shared with her.

Imagine walking into your parents’ home and finding your mother had passed away days ago, and your father is completely unable to process what happened because dementia has left him confused and incapable of caring for himself or even calling 911 for help. That’s exactly the nightmare that Jimi walked into this past week.

On Monday, July 25th, Jimi went to his parent’s house to check on them like he usually does. Having not heard from his mother, who is his usual source of contact, he felt like something was amiss. Jimi drove out to Mesa to their home and tragically found his mother had passed away. His father was very confused, having been battling dementia for some time, and wasn’t really aware or cognizant of what was happening.

Sadly, Linda had been deceased for a few days before Jimi was able to drive over and check on them. James Sr. was unable, and unaware of what to do and did not have the wherewithal to dial emergency services. Since Linda was James’ primary caregiver, he was unable to prepare meals for himself, bathe himself, or take care of normal every day needs.

This has been an extremely difficult week. After the death of Linda, organizing her after life care, and spinning our wheels with how to best help James Sr. find placement and housing that would best meet his needs through the ER, the VA, and Adult Protective Services, we are left feeling a little hopeless.

Linda and James Sr. owned a home together. Because of the level of care James Sr. needs, he currently cannot return to the home as he cannot care for himself and it needs to be professionally cleaned due to biohazards, as well as extensively repaired.

James Sr. is a veteran and has spent his entire life working. Even with the VA and the many branches of social services being involved, because he only makes $1500 per month in social security, there’s really no long term care facility or nursing facility that would take him with those limited funds. They generally require more than double the amount of James’ income.

As we’re working tirelessly around the clock to find resources for James Sr., we just feel so disheartened that we cannot care for James Sr. ourselves. Financially and medically we are unable to provide the level of care that James requires, because dementia has left him in need of 100% supervision.

The loss of Linda and the subsequent mental and physical decline of James Sr. comes just two short years after the unexpected and tragic loss of Jimi’s fiancé and the mother of his son. As if it wasn’t enough to experience a loss so shocking and sudden those years ago, Jimi is once again finding himself in the throes of monumental grief and hardship.

In addition to finding placement for James Sr. we are making arrangements for Linda and her cremation. Linda had no life insurance policy, and her care is being paid for directly by Jimi, who is James’ and Linda’s only surviving heir.

On Monday, Jimi walked into one of the most stressful days of his life. A day that is only surpassed by that day two years ago when he and his son lost their life partner and mother. Losing Jimi’s mother, being responsible for the care and future of his father, and having to handle a home that is in such disrepair it is currently condemned, while also being a single father, has been incredibly overwhelming for all involved. The financial and emotional burden is staggering. There is not enough time, money or resources to be able to tackle this alone.

The state of our country’s social services is in such shambles. When a U.S. veteran who’s served and worked and paid taxes all of his life, can’t be afforded the provision of any government institutions to live out the rest of his life in dignity, with the care that he so desperately needs, where does that leave us? It leaves us with an overwhelming amount of our veterans discarded; homeless in a rotating cycle of shelters, emergency rooms, and detox centers.

On behalf of Jimi and James Sr., as our last ditch effort, we are calling on the help of our community. We are humbly asking for financial assistance in finding and providing care for James Sr. and for the cremation of Linda, so we can provide her with a dignified farewell, as well as for assistance in the professional cleaning and repairing of James’ home and for the financial struggle that comes with Jimi being unable to work until he finds placement for his father.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Please share with any and all. No contribution is too small, and shares go a long way.
