Early Friday morning around 2:25 a.m., my friend Jamell was involved in a serious car accident on the 91 freeway in LA, just two exits from getting home. While traveling at approximately 55–60 mph, the car in front of him suddenly braked. Despite his efforts to stop, he wasn’t able to react in time and rear-ended the vehicle.

After the impact, smoke filled his windshield, and fearing for his safety, Jamell made the split-second decision to exit the car once it slowed. He tumbled onto the freeway but was able to get himself to the shoulder safely. His car continued off the roadway and came to rest in nearby bushes. Thankfully, no one else was injured, and Jamell escaped with only scrapes, a blistered foot, and temporary soreness—something we are incredibly grateful for given how severe the situation could have been.

Although he is physically okay, the accident left his car totaled and him without reliable transportation. He now needs help covering the down payment for a replacement vehicle so he can get back to work and continue his daily responsibilities.

Anyone who knows Jamell knows he is a fun, positive light in this world—someone who consistently shows up for others, brings good energy wherever he goes, and supports those around him without hesitation. Now it’s our turn to show up for him!
