I’m Jamel, and I’m raising funds to restore a building for Trap Yoga and Massage Studio and our Lil Trap Yogis. Last month, I bought this building after years of dreaming about creating a space for yoga, massage, kids’ classes, and healing in our community. But when I finally opened the door, I found something heartbreaking: no roof, only open sky, fallen beams, and trees growing through the floor. Even in that moment, I felt reassured. This is how the Trap began: from the mud, one step at a time. Out of that came our motto, No Roof, No Limits. Still, before anything else can happen, this building needs urgent repairs before the first Detroit snow causes even more damage.
Right now, every donation will go first toward getting a roof on this building before winter. If snow and water keep pouring in, the floors and walls will take on even more damage, and the freeze-thaw cycle could turn a hard project into an impossible one. I’m asking my students, clients, athletes, friends, and neighbors to give whatever you can. Maybe you’ve taken a class with me, been on my massage table, played on the field, or simply encouraged me along the way. However you know me, you’ve been part of this journey. Every gift, big or small, helps create shelter for a future healing space and supports every person who will one day walk through these doors looking for peace, strength, and care.
