Help Jameka & Winona Rebuild After Flood
Donation protected
On the evening of July 7, our friend Jameka Autry and her mother Winona woke in the middle of the night to floodwater entering their home — no warning system told them to leave for higher ground. As the water reached two feet, then quickly, three, they stood on her bed holding her cat Zoe until emergency workers rescued them by boat. The effects of floodwaters from Tropical Depression Chantal destroyed their home and their community in Raleigh, NC. They now face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives after extensive damage destroyed almost all of their belongings and made their home uninhabitable.
Just a few months before, their flood insurance was unexpectedly cancelled, leaving them without private insurance coverage. The cost of cleanup and repairs will remain a huge burden as they rebuild their lives. The immediate priority is cleaning up the damage and replacing approximately 85% of their possessions, including clothing, furniture, and their vehicles. While they are fortunate to have a temporary place to stay for the next four months, the road ahead is uncertain and filled with expenses they never anticipated.
Jameka is supporting her retired mother through this crisis, and together they are relying on the kindness of friends, family, and the community to help them recover. They have not received assistance from local organizations, so every donation will go directly toward cleanup and rebuild as well as replacing lost items. Your support is integral in helping Jameka and Winona regain their footing and restore what was lost. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in their journey to recovery.
