Just a few years ago, Jameka was thriving: a full-time teacher in Southern California and mom to two awesome kids. As a single mother, she worked hard to put herself through university to become an educator for over a decade. Now Jameka is facing huge health and legal setbacks, which have escalated into massive financial hardship and all the stresses of what that could look like.

Although she was awarded medical care in 2020 for the rest of her life, her former employer is fighting to block her care. This has had a devastating impact on her and her family. Jameka’s battle to stand up against the racism and harassment she experienced and tried to combat as an educator and union site representative has left her vulnerable to retaliation by her former school district. Now she is fighting for justice for herself and others who experienced similar treatment - alongside dealing with ongoing health issues.
