Jamari is an AMAZING Chicago native and first-generation college student attending Louisiana State University (LSU), who aims to make a difference and beat the odds society has set for young Black men. A scholar, athlete, and dancer, Jamari has consistently strived to be the best, placing himself in programming that builds confidence, nurtures creativity, offers leadership support, and provides mentorship. He’s done EVERYTHING he can on his own, supported by his family, but now, he needs his village - and ours.

Jamari has a $3,900 tuition balance from his fall semester and won’t be allowed to stay at LSU unless it's paid. I used my resources to extend the original deadline (January 6th) and to get permission to register for the spring semester, so he doesn’t miss a beat. Still, with the unpaid balance, he won’t be allowed to continue. He currently doesn't have access to his meal plan.

What happened?

Jamari’s mother entered a payment plan to ‘pull it together’ each month. Unexpectedly, they suffered incredible loss in their family. All supplemental funds went to funeral expenses. They were penalized for not completing the payment plan, and here we are. Sometimes, things happen that are beyond our control, and the repercussions spread far and wide.

So, here we are.

Jamari’s balance has to be paid by Wednesday, January 21st. It's a big chunk for a small few, but if we send this far and wide, we can help him meet his goal:
