Jamaica update - 4 weeks later my nieces and friends sound hopeless and traumatised
My name is Simmone Simpson and I am proud to be part of the friends and family whom make up the UK Jamaican diaspora. Thank you for your our amazing support and donations to this cause.
As a keynote speaker who champions resilience, my heart breaks for my family and communities across Jamaica. Especially in St ELIZABETH Westmorland & Maroon town ravaged by the full force of Hurricane Melissa.
On Tuesday 28th October 25, devastation arrived like explosions, homes collapsed, heritage swept away, and the lives of many family members, including 2 of my nieces with young children (aged 11 months - 13yrs) were altered detrimentaly.
Your Donations have already started to make a DIFFERENCE to them: (See picture updates)
UPDATE - 4 weeks later my niece whom is a primary lead at the local school sounded exhausted hopeless and traumatised as she told me. "Aunty there is still not much aid getting to remote areas in the country such as mountainside! There's STILL NO WATER! NO ELECTRICITY! NO FORMULA OR NAPPIES for the BABY! NO ROOFS! NO HOUSING!.
Her anguished cry broke my heart
I remain as stunned as most are. I'd heard and seen aid flying to Jamaica However, she expressed REALITY! It's not been easy to cover all that devasted ground in hidden communities. There's been the odd aid package. Unfortunately, there has been extortion. Water has a high cost at £50 a barrel that is expected to last a family 3-4 days!"
⚠️To support, she feedback on what was needed for the communities still trapped in flooded land (see pictures in bio).
