This is Jake. He’s a beautiful Golden Retriever with the sweetest soul — but he’s had the hardest start in life.
Jake was born into a large illegal breeding circle and was rescued by the RSPCA. When we first brought him home, he was only about 6 weeks old — malnourished, weak, and with no calcium in his bones. On his very first day with us, a tiny bump caused his back leg to snap. Because he wasn’t insured yet, I covered all his vet bills myself.
Since then, Jake’s journey has been heartbreaking. His kneecap twisted out of place, his tibia grew malformed, and he’s endured constant pain. We’ve seen countless vets, had X-rays, CT scans, and consultations. To date, I’ve paid over £10,000 for his care.
Recently, we had a consultation with a specialist referral practice. He examined Jake and confirmed he can help. With surgery, Jake can finally live a life without pain, able to run, play, and keep up with his brothers. But the operation will cost £16,500, and he may also need a hip surgery later on.
Here’s the hardest part: I can’t raise the funds on my own. I recently had an operation myself that went wrong, leaving me very unwell for months. Throughout it all, Jake never left my side. Despite everything he’s been through, he is the most loving, comical, and loyal dog I’ve ever met. He deserves this chance.
Right now, Jake lives a very limited life — always trying to keep up, but always in pain. With your help, that can change.
