Hi, my name is Jane, and I am fundraising for my best friend’s son Jake Sturman. He is a 12-year-old hockey player from Lacey Township, NJ that was selected to represent the Atlantic District Hockey in Quebec, Canada (February of 2022)!! This amazing accomplishment is a testament to his dedication to the sport of hockey as he had rigorous tryouts that lasted 2 weekends competing against the top players in the Atlantic District to earn his placement on the team. In the hockey world, this is like the Olympics, he will play a high level of hockey against different countries. A great experience for any hockey player that made the team, and even more so when that hockey player was dealt a “broken road”.
Jake started playing hockey shortly after the unexpected tragedy of losing his dad when he was only 5 years old. He uses the rink as his therapy and leaves his heart on the ice with every single practice, game, and tournament. He did not let his loss define his destiny and he is creating his own path. This opportunity to play in Quebec will not only reward his dedication but will also expose him to possibilities and more opportunities to keep him hungry and on a positive track.
Jake is not only a great hockey player, but he is also a good role model of sportsmanship. Several coaches and parents from opposing teams make a point to find Jake after games and let him know they enjoyed watching him play hockey and mention his mature sportsmanship on the ice and treatment of the opposing team; picking up a dropped stick, helping another player up, or just acknowledging a good save by the goalie.
Please let’s help the family raise money for Jake’s Journey to Quebec to cover tournament fees, travel expenses, and hockey/travel equipment. Fees begin in September.
Thank you for your support!!
