Help Jake Mason Begin His Road to Recovery after a Life-Changing Accident
On behalf of 31-year-old Jacob Mason, everyone knows as Jake, Jake is pure energy and joy in human form. He is the kind of person who lights up a room simply by walking into it. He is adventurous, always chasing the next sunrise, and happiest when outside. He loves hunting, adventure, motocross, and anything that involves open air and dirt under his boots. He loves music at full volume and animals of every kind, and he is fiercely devoted to his family. His dad Brad, his mom Chris, his sister Jess, and his brother Connor, are the center of his world.
On Saturday, November 22, while Jake was working hanging Christmas lights at the entrance to a neighborhood, trying to bring light and holiday joy as he has for the past eight years, he was using a pole while on a 16-foot ladder to put lights into some pine trees that should have been trimmed back further from the power lines. The pole he was using touched an overhead power line while he was trying to wrap a tree. He suffered a severe electrocution while standing at the top of the 16-foot ladder and fell to the ground below.
Jake was rushed to Parker Adventist Hospital where the incredibly talented surgeons saved not only the use of his upper spine, arms and neck, but most likely his life. It is nothing short of a miracle that he is still here with us, and we are grateful beyond words.
The injuries he suffered, however, are catastrophic. Jake is now paralyzed from the mid-chest down. Even in the face of something this devastating, he has remained courageous. He is already inspiring everyone around him with his strength, determination, and refusal to give up. His recovery so far has amazed his medical team. Jake has already been accepted into Craig Hospital, which is a miracle in itself given the long waiting list, and he has been established in a room where he will begin intensive rehabilitation and start building his new life.
The road ahead for Jake and his family has changed forever. There are many unknowns still ahead of him. We are learning every day what this new reality means. The financial challenges are overwhelming. The medical bills, rehabilitation costs, long-term care needs, adaptive equipment, and home modifications required are more than we ever imagined we would face.
We are asking for help. Every dollar will go directly to Jake’s care and recovery, and will allow him the chance to continue fighting for the best possible future. No contribution is too small. If you are unable to donate, sharing Jake’s story is an incredible gift as well.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, your support, and your compassion. Thank you for standing with Jake and giving strength to a young man whose courage is inspiring everyone who knows him.
