Help Jake Recover After Uinta Mountain Accident
Donation protected
On July 20, 2025, our friend Jacob “Jake” Schmitt — a lifelong outdoorsman, small business owner, and true fighter — survived a devastating accident in Utah’s Uinta Mountains.
While out doing what he loves with his loyal dog Buddy, Jake’s side-by-side vehicle lost control and rolled off a cliff.
In the crash, Jake sustained a broken leg, fractured ankles, and broken ribs.
Losing his phone, and with no light except for the one on Buddy’s collar, Jake did something extraordinary: he splinted his leg and crawled for miles down the mountain for over 11 hours through the night, until he reached his truck, where he drove himself to The Oakley Diner, where staff called 911.
Jake was rushed to Park City Hospital. The Oakley Fire Station took care of Buddy and Jake’s truck until his family could be contacted.
When Jake and Buddy were finally reunited at the hospital, it was nothing short of moving — a powerful moment of loyalty, love, and survival.
Originally from Buffalo, NY, Jake now lives in Ogden, Utah. This accident has put everything on hold — his health, his livelihood, and his ability to work.
We’re creating this page not out of charity, but out of solidarity
If you know Jake, you know he would never ask for help. But community means showing up for one another when life takes an unexpected turn.
Jake is the guy who’s always there when you need him — whether helping a fellow hunter, welding something back together for a neighbor, or lending a hand with zero hesitation.
Now it’s our turn to be there for him.
