Help Jake Johnson's Family Through Crisis
Donation protected
Jake is an Air Force veteran, and a former military firefighter. He is one of our managers at FILO Liquors. On Monday, 23 June, Jake was travelling southbound on the Winters Freeway with his son Tyler and his dog Steve. They were struck head-on by a vehicle that had crossed the median. Jake's son fractured vertebrae in his back but was released from the hospital. He still has a long recovery. Steve severely bruised his hip and one paw but is expected a full recovery.
Jake took the brunt of the collision and was pinned in the truck with multiple open fractures while Abilene Fire Dept worked tirelessly for 20 minutes to cut him out. He was immediately Life-Flighted to DFW will multiple fractures, many of which were compound.
We are anticipating an extended hospital stay and even longer rehab period. His injuries are severe and most likely will impact his quality of life forever. He and his family have a long road ahead of them physically, emotionally and financially.
We started this GoFundMe to help his family pay bills not covered by insurance and travel between Abilene and DFW for the foreseeable future.
If you are a customer of FILO Liquors, you know both Jake and Steve. If you don’t know him, think of the best person you’ve ever known and that’s Jake times 10. He and his family have had their world turned upside down in the blink of an eye. Any donation helps!
