A split second changed everything.
While riding his bike at a neighbor’s house, my student 9-year-old Jake lost control going down a hill
and crashed into a fence. The impact tore open his face and two fingers on his left hand,
and broke both of his wrists. But what Jake did next is incredible —this little warrior, blind
from shock, bleeding and in unimaginable pain, walked 400 yards home and climbed
through a fence – listening for the sound of his family's chickens and pet dogs… determined
to make it back to his family.
Thanks to the wonderful care of the doctors and nurses at the Children’s Hospital in
Morgantown, Jake is now recovering—stitched up, in casts, with an eye injury that is
expected to fully heal. We’re grateful beyond words that he’s alive. But the road ahead is
long, and the medical bills are already mounting.
Jake comes from a loving family with four other siblings, and they are doing everything they
can to stay strong through this ordeal. Now, they need our help.
Your donation will go directly toward Jake’s medical expenses and help ease the financial
strain on this devoted family so they can focus on what matters most: helping Jake heal.
Please give what you can—and if you can’t give, share this story. Every act of kindness
matters. Thank you!
