As many of you may know, Jake was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called chondrosarcoma back in 2024. His journey began after a routine eye test at Specsavers in 2023 raised concerns, leading to months of hospital appointments, scans, and uncertainty. Then after suffering a bleed on the brain in 2024, his treatment was fast-tracked, and he underwent an urgent biopsy.

While chondrosarcoma itself is relatively uncommon, having it located in the skull, as it is in Jake’s case, is exceptionally rare.

The past two years have been incredibly challenging. Jake has undergone two major brain surgeries while also navigating some of life’s biggest milestones, buying his first home and becoming a dad to his beautiful daughter, Orla.

After his first surgery in January 2025, Jake was due to begin proton beam radiotherapy. Unfortunately, further complications meant he required another operation in January 2026. Although this surgery wasn’t as extensive as the first, he was later readmitted to hospital after his wound began leaking cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in another two weeks away from Chloe and Orla.

Jake has now started the next stage of his treatment, proton beam radiotherapy. While he is determined to fight this, the financial impact is stressful. He has already exhausted his sick pay due to his previous surgeries, meaning he now has very limited financial support while undergoing treatment. Chloe is also still on maternity leave and will be by Jake’s side throughout his treatment and recovery while caring for baby Orla.

The treatment requires regular travel, costing around £25 per day by train, alongside the additional day-to-day expenses that come with months of treatment. During the second month, Jake will thankfully be able to stay closer to the hospital with family, but the financial pressure on them is still significant.

Despite everything they have been through, Jake and Chloe are two of the most positive, kind-hearted people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. No matter what life throws at them, they always laughing and so positive. Even while fighting cancer, Jake continues to put everyone else before himself, a true reflection of the man he is.

I’m setting up this fundraiser to help ease some of the stress. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will go towards travel costs and everyday living expenses, allowing Jake to focus on what matters most, his treatment, his recovery, and spending precious time with Chloe and Orla.
