If you’ve ever shared a stage with Jake Kinnard, watched him play, or crossed paths in the local music scene, this is a chance for the community to show up for one of our own. Jake is a talented musician and a familiar face to many who have crossed paths with him through shows and the local scene.
A couple of years ago, around Christmas, Jake was homeless and sleeping outside during a freeze when he suffered severe frostbite. The injuries were devastating. Since then, he has undergone multiple surgeries to remove parts of his feet and leg. Each time, he was discharged from the hospital back onto the street, without a safe place to recover or a reliable way to manage medications and follow-up care.
This cycle led to repeated infections and additional amputations. Today, Jake has lost one leg above the knee and half of his remaining foot, and he still faces additional surgery ahead.
There is finally a path forward. Jake was recently approved for Medicare/Medicaid and is applying for housing vouchers and assistance programs that will help him live more independently. These systems take time to activate, however, and there is a critical gap between now and when those supports begin. This fundraiser is meant to bridge that gap.
The funds raised will help cover:
• Three months of safe extended-stay housing
• Transportation to medical appointments
• A basic power wheelchair to restore mobility while he waits for insurance approval of a long-term chair
• Essential medical and daily living needs
Having a stable place to stay will allow Jake to properly heal from infection, attend his medical appointments consistently, and move forward with the surgeries and rehabilitation he needs.
To ensure everything is handled responsibly, I will be managing the funds on Jake’s behalf and directing them toward housing, transportation, mobility equipment, and medical needs.
Jake has spent years navigating incredibly difficult circumstances, but he still hopes to reconnect with the music community once he is healthy and stable again. With the encouragement of his friends, his music family, and the kindness of people willing to help, he finally has a real opportunity to stabilize his health and rebuild his life. If you are able to contribute or share this campaign, you will be helping Jake take the first steps toward recovery and a safer future.
