Jai’s world turned upside down when her father suffered a stroke in the Philippines. Far from home, she’s been doing everything she can to support her family, but the distance and the weight of responsibility have been overwhelming. Her father urgently needs surgery, and her family simply doesn’t have the financial means to cover the medical expenses. The thought of not being able to help her father in his time of need is heartbreaking for Jai, especially as the holidays approach.
The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward her father’s surgery and help ensure that her family doesn’t fall into debt afterward. Jai shares, “MY DAD IS IN THE ICU I remember eight years ago, during his last stroke, when I visited my dad in the hospital. He looked at me and said, “I’m tired. I want to rest.” Those were the most heartbreaking words I have ever heard from him. That day, I made a deal with my father. I told him he had to fight—and that he didn’t need to worry about our family’s financial responsibilities anymore. I told him, I’ve got this. So he fought. And for years, I believed that my reassurance was what kept him going, what allowed him to live until today. And now, of all times, it’s Christmas season—and he’s back in the ICU. This time, it’s a ruptured blood vessel in his brain. He’s waiting for surgery, but time is the enemy. The longer he waits, the more critical it becomes. What hurts the most is the distance. I am far away. I can’t be there to hold his hand or give him the reassurance I gave him years ago. I can’t look him in the eyes and tell him to fight—again. But if he could hear me now, I would say: “Sukol, pa. Kay muuli pa ko og magkita pa ta.” (Fight a little longer, Dad. I’m coming home, and we will see each other again.)”
