After a routine ER visit (is there such a thing?) for kidney stones, Jaime's physician noted something suspicious in the imaging that had been performed. The subsequent weeks have been a whirlwind of appointments with specialists, further imaging, and invasive tests, and finally the shocking diagnosis: melanoma that has metastasized to her lungs. Once melanoma has metastasized, it is considered incurable.
While it is incurable, there is treatment available. So, as soon as possible, Jaime will begin immunotherapy with two intravenous medications infused every three weeks for four rounds. After this, she will have one drug infused monthly. This is a lifelong treatment.
Our desire is to give Jaime and Dave and their son, Cooper, a tangible reminder of God's love and care for them as they walk this cancer journey together. All funds raised through this page will go directly to the Elzinga family to help with the extra medical costs that take a heavy toll on a young family's monthly budget. We also want to provide enough to pay for Cooper's kindgergarten tuition as he starts school this fall, so that would be one less thing for them to think about in this season of overwhelm.
Thanks for taking time to read this and to pray for Jaime and her family. If you'd like to follow their journey, you can subscribe to get Jaime's updates on CaringBridge.
As Jaime's maternal aunt, I've been asked to set up and monitor this page. Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions or feel led to help them in another way.
