Hi, my name is Jaee Hicks, and tomorrow is supposed to be one of the proudest moments of my life: my nursing school graduation ceremony. But today, I was told I won’t be allowed to walk the stage or begin my final eight-week preceptorship unless I pay a $3,000 balance—a balance I was promised would be covered.
When I started nursing school, I was pregnant and determined to create a better life for my children. I gave birth to my son during my first semester and kept going through postpartum recovery, a house fire, financial hardship, and everything in between. I never gave up, even when the odds were stacked against me.
A company I worked for approved covering my tuition and provided an official letter confirming it. I was relieved. I thought one burden had been lifted. But months later, they revoked the payment without warning because my employment status changed from part-time to PRN. I didn’t even know until this week—right before graduation.
Now, I’m being told I can’t graduate tomorrow or start the last phase of my program—my eight-week preceptorship, which is the final hands-on training I need to become a licensed nurse—unless I pay the full balance of $3,000.
I’ve poured everything into this journey. I’ve studied late into the night with a newborn on my chest, fought through burnout and heartbreak, and stayed focused so I could reach this moment. I’ve done my part. I’m just asking for a little help to finish what I started.
If you can donate anything at all, it will go directly toward clearing this balance so I can graduate, complete my preceptorship, and take my NCLEX.
If you can’t donate, please share this with someone who might be able to help. Every prayer, every dollar, every share means the world to me and my sons, Ezra and Silas.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
With love and gratitude,
