Jade’s fight against cancer

2020, the year the world changed and the year our lives would change forever. Throughout Covid during our quarantine I’d have Jade do some mild exercises, like walk on the treadmill or jump on her trampoline and almost every time she’d complain about her side hurting and she only said something about it hurting when she would be doing something physical. So, I honestly thought she was just getting a cramp from us not being so active. It was about mid November when Jade came to me and said her side was hurting and that she couldn’t lay down comfortably anymore. So that’s when I was like show me. This was on a Tuesday.
Jade lifted her shirt and pointed to the spot where it was. From just looking at it; it seemed normal but as soon as I touch her ribs, I could feel something there. I knew immediately there was something wrong. My hands were shaking and I had a serious knot in my stomach. I told Jade to get her phone and charger, I knew we we’re going to be gone for a while. I took Jade to the Chandler hospital, where they did X-rays and bloodwork. Then I was told by the ER doctor and I quote “you’re just being an over protecting Mother and that there was nothing wrong with Jade” at that point I went a little “Karen” on the doctor and let him know that he would be hearing from me again. I was pissed because I knew he was wrong and he wouldn’t do an ultrasound on her. The next morning Wednesday I took Jade to our family doctor and explained what had happened at the ER. Our doctor agreed with me that she needed an ultrasound and that she could feel there was something there. So we left the doctors and went and did the ultrasound and during that I could see there was something there. Fast forward to Friday, I still hadn’t heard anything from the doctor and I couldn’t handle not knowing what was going on with Jade. So that’s when I decided to take Jade to PCH.
PCH did the ultrasound and I knew it was bad when 5 doctors came walking in the room together. I just stood up and walked out the other side. I knew I was about to lose it emotionally and Jade didn’t need to see that. 2 of the doctors took me in another room to explain what they thought it was. Cancer…….
Oh man! that shit was so hard to hear, I couldn’t control my emotions or thoughts. It was crazy and I was so confused. I had to sit for a while by myself, I didn’t know what else to do. Our lives were changed forever. Jade was admitted into the hospital immediately. They did a biopsy the next day to confirm it was osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. The tumor was on her left side 8th rib. The next day Jade had surgery and had a power port placed in her chest. (right side) The following week Jade started chemotherapy. She went through about 15 rounds of chemo. Then she had her first major surgery February 18th 2021 where they took out her 7th, 8th, 9th rib, all the soft issues and muscle in that area. After a few weeks to heal she started chemo again and finished a total of 30 rounds altogether. By this time it was mid August and her scans showed no signs of the cancer. We we’re so excited. The stress was finally gone and we all cried tears of joy. We went on a road trip to celebrate.
On Jade’s 3 month scan in November 17th 2021 just a days shy from the first time she was diagnosed. We heard those horrible words once again, Jade had cancer. The cancer came back so fast and so strong. This time it was on her spine. On December 2nd 2021 Jade had her 2nd major surgery. They removed 3 pieces of her spine. Her 6th, 7th and 8th vertebrae. They were unable to remove the whole tumor because it was attached to her spinal cord and outer lung. It would’ve caused more damage to her if they would’ve tried to remove the whole thing. After her surgery they wanted her to rest and recover but in that time the cancer spread even more. To her lungs, hip and toe. They started Jade on another chemo that was so toxic it almost killed her. Her doctors then reached out to the mayo clinic in Scottsdale where they accepted her and started radiation immediately. Jaedyana underwent 24 rounds of radiation to her spine. She finished radiation in February 2022. The radiation helped with the spine and they only did the radiation cause she was in so much pain. They were unable to do radiation on her lungs, hip and toe. Since the really toxic chemo didn’t work either, they sent Jade home with an oral chemo. This chemo was to only see if it would help stop the growth but unfortunately it hasn’t helped. On May 23rd 2022 Jade had another scan done and I’m sad to say the cancer has spread even more and the older tumors grew even more. However because the cancer got worse it now made her eligible for a clinical trial. We will go meet the team June 13th and go over everything. I do know that Jade will be the first child to receive this type of chemo. I’m excited and terrified at the same time. Jade is my life and I can’t imagine my life without her. I’m going everything I can to keep her healthy and keep her here with us. Gas alone is a joke and being vegan is not cheap but it’s what she needs.
I’ve have update her GoFundMe because with Jade going back into the hospital and we don’t know for how long or what’s going to happen. With her cancer coming back we felt it was necessary to shut the bounce house company down so we could be with Jade every second of every minute because Jade needs to be our only focus. With us doing that it did make things a little tighter around here so any and all help is truly appreciated. I have also made a Venmo @Amber-Cantrell-23
