In August, a Northfield, MN family’s life was turned upside down when their 22-year-old son, Jahdiel, was taken by ICE.

Jahdiel came to the United States when he was just 1 year old. This is the only home he has ever known. He has a pending DACA application and a work permit and had been working to support his 3 sisters until he was suddenly taken.

Since being detained over 6 months ago, Jahdiel has been denied proper medical care, including treatment for a cracked molar and infection that causes ongoing pain as well as a vision problem. Watching a their son suffer while being unable to help has been devastating for his parents.

At the same time, the family is facing overwhelming legal costs as they fight his deportation through an appeal. These mounting legal bills have left them struggling to cover basic necessities like rent, groceries, and the high cost of phone calls and communication required just to stay connected with him while he is detained.

The emotional toll has been especially hard on his 6-year-old sister. Since he was taken, she has been having nightmares and constantly draws pictures of her brother — including the one shared here — trying to cope with his sudden absence.

We are asking for help to keep this family afloat during this unimaginable time. Funds raised will go directly toward:

• Communication costs so the family can stay in touch with him while he is detained
