Help Jaden and La'Kayla rebuild their home

Jaden and La’Kayla are both graduate students at the University of Texas at Austin, and until recently lived together in an apartment in Austin. When Texas lost power, they did too. They remained in their apartment for a while, until it became too unbearably cold. They snagged emergency housing at UT for a few days, thinking they had endured the worst.

A few days later, Jaden and La'Kayla returned to their home only to find it destroyed. Their upstairs neighbor's pipe burst, and their ceiling exploded. Their apartment has been turned inside out. All their belongings are soggy and covered in debris. There's very little that can be salvaged. To add insult to injury, when Jaden and La'Kayla booked a hotel room for a few nights,  they were forced to leave after the hotel staff subjected them to racist abuse.

La’Kayla and Jaden need money to move, to find a new place to stay, and to replace their belongings. They raised some money immediately after the pipe burst, but more pipes have burst. They have filed an insurance claim, but it won't be enough to cover the damage. There are now gapping holes in all corners of their apartment. It is not a safe place for them to stay.

Jaden and La'Kalya are committed comrades and abolitionists. They need our help. Please donate what you can.
