Dear Friends,

My name is Bobbie, and this is my 24-year-old Yellow Nape Amazon, Jade. I’m reaching out today with a heavy heart and an urgent request for help. Jade needed emergency surgery to remove a broken, adhered egg from her reproductive tract. The yolk had burst and was gluing her intestines together; she also had a small hernia from straining to remove the egg on her own.

Jade has been by my side since she was just 12 weeks old, and in those 24 years, she is more than just a pet to me—she’s my best friend, soulmate, and family member. We've raised my child together, fostered other parrots and other animals, and along the way, Jade’s exceptional verbal skills and vibrant personality have amazed and educated everyone she meets. She truly is one of a kind. The vets had nothing but positive things to say about her!

The procedure that was needed to save her life is so highly specialized that we needed to travel 10 hours away to the veterinary clinic in Colorado, where she needed to stay for 3 weeks, and it cost $8,988.04, not including travel expenses! The staff of this hospital was amazing and deserves all the credit for keeping my best friend around! But, as a disabled person living on a fixed income, covering this immediate medical expense was nearly impossible. To make matters worse, I am just weeks out from my own necessary surgery, which has drained my finances further. Through many loans, I was able to cobble together the amount needed to pay the veterinarian (who I am in no way saying doesn't deserve or need to charge the amount asked for). Jade has been my constant companion for so long, and I simply can’t imagine life without her. If you’ve ever known the bond between a person and their animal, you’ll understand how much this means to me.
