A little about myself:
I am a Posse Scholar , student, mentor, researcher, public speaker— an African American Woman from Oakland, California who made the move to Tacoma, Washington to continue her higher education at the University of Puget Sound. I am a Junior, majoring in Psychology and minoring (hopefully will become a major) in African American Studies. I am naturally a leader who is dedicated to learning about the world, helping others, and promoting self-growth.
This year, I have been granted the opportunity to go abroad for a month to Ghana, West Africa. African American Studies 310 is a course dedicated to teaching students about the African Diaspora in a cultural enrichment course during a three week travel in the winter. It will be the first trip I partake in with my peers and further my knowledge within African American history. To learn more about the course, please view the hyperlink .
At this time, my mother is unable to support me financially. It has been my dream to engage in this opportunity and yet again leave my community to learn more about myself and expand my access to education. I want to connect to my homeland, respectfully engage in the lives of people who look like me outside America, and hear the narratives that were lost many years ago. I kindly ask that you join me in this effort to collect funds towards my course fee, flight, passport fees, meals, and vaccinations. Any small donations helps me get one step closer to my dream, and with the support of the community, we will make this become a reality.
The donations will cover my course fee ($2,900), airfare ($1,400), meal ($400), and vaccinations ($300). This summer I am working extremely hard, a job, an internship, and a summer camp, to make enough money for this trip. Every opportunity I take this summer will help me reach my goal. So, not only do I need your help, I am holding myself accountable to work as hard as I can to reach my goal.
