Help Jada Pay for Esthetics School
Donation protected
Somehow you ended up on my fundraising page – so hello and thank you for stopping by!
The Fundraiser Basics
I’m fundraising to help assist in paying for my esthetics course work and licensure.
For the past 9 months, I’ve been enrolled in an esthetics program learning the practical and professional skills to become a licensed esthetician! The good news is, I’ll be graduating on March 21st, 2021. Unfortunately, my esthetics program does not qualify for funding and scholarships from national programs, therefore all expenses will have to be paid for by me.
Due to COVID, being unemployed for most of 2020, and recently graduating (May 2020 Graduate of JMU – GO DUKES), my financial situation has been strenuous to say the least. I don’t have the money to pay my full tuition and fees and in my current financial circumstances, I’m unsure when it’d be possible for me to save that much. I even put my small businesses on pause to help me maintain focus on my course work and stay on track.
I say all that to say - I need your help! Please donate and share this with your followers, friends, and family on all your social platforms, if you’re willing and able!
The total amount I am hoping to raise is $9,000 for the following expenses:
- Tuition Remaining - $8,390
- Practical and Theory Exam Fees - $185
- Licensure - $225
- Practical Exam Kit - $200
My program tuition has to be paid in full before I can register to take my practical and theory exams. The next exam is scheduled for Monday, April 5th, 2021.
My Why
My life goal is to actively create spaces where my community (BLACK PEOPLE) can feel cared for and proud. To cater to my community the way we deserve.
Too often we pay to frequent places where our character is questioned due to the color of our skin. We are neglected or targeted when we speak up for ourselves and our right to be treated fairly. We are improperly cared due to the lack of cultural competency. We are treated as less than in this country when that is the furthest from everything we are and can be.
My undergraduate education gave me rich insights into how societies’ systems indirectly and directly cause inequity and misrepresentation for marginalized communities. Throughout my esthetics education, the analytical lens I developed in undergrad allowed me to become aware of the beauty industry's inadequacies for persons of color, especially black people.
To help remedy this inequality, one of my goals for my esthetics practice is to create a safe and comfortable space where my community can receive professional and customized skin and body care services, specifically a black-owned day spa which specializes in the maintenance and care of melanin-rich skin. I also plan to start an esthetics training program with the skin of people of color being a main part of the curriculum.
Be a part of the solution with me. Please donate and share my fundraiser if you’re able!
