Meet Jada Ann, a brave and beautiful 15-year-old who is facing a rare and devastating neurological condition called Vanishing White Matter Disease (VWMD).
What is VWMD?
Vanishing White Matter Disease is a rare genetic disorder that affects the brain’s white matter, which is responsible for sending signals throughout the body. Over time, this white matter slowly deteriorates, leading to progressive loss of motor skills, balance, speech, and, eventually, basic life functions. There is currently no cure, and treatment options are extremely limited—making hope and opportunity incredibly rare.
Against all odds, Jada has been accepted into a clinical trial in Boston, USA, offering a potential treatment for VWMD. This trial represents hope—not only for Jada, but for other children facing this disease around the world.
To give Jada this life-changing opportunity, her mom, Kim, has had to leave her job, her home, and everything familiar in South Africa. They are currently in the United States with Jada, along with Jada’s devoted Granny, Marie, who will help care for and support them during this journey. The clinical trial will last 7 months, requiring long-term accommodation, daily living expenses, and travel—far from home.
As you can imagine, the South African Rand does not stretch far against the American Dollar, and the emotional, physical, and financial strain of this move has been overwhelming. This GoFundMe has been created to help ease that burden so the family can focus on what truly matters: Jada’s health and future.
