Please help my daughter and son in law!
Last summer they bought their first home in Fort Vermillion Alberta. Last week the Peace river jammed with ice, flooding the town. Their home was underwater. The basement is destroyed, covered in mud and the ceiling is collapsing. The upstairs had over a foot of water and everything is toppled over, wet and muddy. The insurance company will not cover flooding from a river.
To make matters worse, my daughter is 35 weeks pregnant (yes during a pandemic!) and having a high-risk pregnancy. They have been evacuated for the last week, but now have had to move to Edmonton to be near specialists until she delivers. They were allowed into their home before they left, but there was almost nothing they could grab that wasn’t wet and muddy.
At this point they need to rent a place in Edmonton for about a month. They had everything they needed for the baby in the house, so will need to replace it all. Then they will need to try to rebuild so they have a home to take the baby to. It is heartbreaking!
Please help if you can and send your thoughts for safety and healing to them and the other people in their situation.
