Help Jacob Fight Aplastic Anemia
Hello!
I am reaching out during a difficult time on behalf of my oldest nephew, Jacob. What started as a routine checkup turned into a life-altering journey. Jacob was flagged for low platelet levels, which led to months of testing and ultimately a difficult diagnosis.
Last year, after being referred to an oncologist, Jacob underwent numerous tests. We were told to keep an eye out for bruising, and last Christmas, we saw just how serious his condition was. He playfully punched a box, and his entire hand turned black and blue.
Eventually, a bone marrow biopsy confirmed that Jacob’s bone marrow is failing. He was diagnosed with congenial aplastic anemia, a rare and serious condition. Since then, he has been going to the doctor regularly for labs and receiving weekly blood platelet transfusions.
On January 2nd, Jacob will be admitted to the hospital to prepare for a bone marrow transplant—a critical step in his treatment. The process will involve weeks of chemotherapy, followed by a transplant scheduled for mid-January. Jacob will spend 6 to 12 weeks in the hospital and will need to stay nearby afterward, likely at the Ronald McDonald House, to monitor for complications like fevers.
This journey is not just emotionally and physically challenging—it’s also financially overwhelming. My sister, Brittany, Jacob’s mom, will need to take at least a month, likely more, off work to be by his side. My goal is to ensure she doesn’t have to worry about how to pay her bills while focusing on what matters most: Jacob’s recovery.
We are asking for help to cover medical, travel, and living expenses during this critical time. Anything you can give—whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer—will mean the world to our family.
Thank you for your generosity and for keeping Jacob in your thoughts and prayers. Together, we can help him fight this battle with the love and support he needs.
With gratitude,
Brandie
