Help Jacob Fight Rare Lung Disease

Donation protected
Our world changed when Jacob was diagnosed with bronchiolitis obliterans a rare and serious lung disease that causes irreversible scarring in the lungs. Before we reached this diagnosis, Jacob was misdiagnosed at OHSU with emphysema something that made no sense for a young man who has never smoked a day in his life. Deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. That’s when we turned to Mayo Clinic, where specialists finally discovered the real cause of his decline and confirmed the rare lung disease that’s now shaping every part of his life. Jacob’s lung function is currently only 38%, and he’s grown so weak from both the lung disease and whatever else is going on medically that he can no longer do much of anything on his own. Even simple daily activities leave him exhausted and short of breath. Mayo’s team is still working to uncover what else is happening in his body that may be contributing to his rapid decline. Before he can even be considered for a lung transplant, Jacob has to become stronger and that means more testing, more procedures, and more trips back to Mayo Clinic in Arizona. These upcoming visits will include multiple appointments and specialized tests to guide his treatment plan and determine whether his body can handle the challenges ahead. This journey has already brought so many unexpected expenses, including: • Frequent travel between our home and Mayo Clinic in Arizona • Extended hospital stays for testing and treatment • Life-saving medications and ongoing care • Out-of-pocket costs that add up quickly Our original fundraiser was created to help with Jacob’s lung biopsy and first trip to Mayo. But with his diagnosis confirmed, his lung function severely reduced, and his body too weak to move forward until more answers are found, the reality is far greater. That’s why we’ve raised our goal so we can focus on Jacob’s health and getting him strong enough for the next steps, without the crushing weight of financial stress. Please keep Jacob in your prayers. If you’re able, every donation no matter the size and every share helps us take the next step forward. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Jacob and giving him hope. Steffenie (Jacob’s mom)
