My husband Jacob and I have shared the last 27 years together, and for the past decade, he has bravely battled coronary artery and polycystic kidney disease. Now, his health has taken a turn for the worse. Today, Jacob started dialysis and needs to travel to the clinic three times a week, with additional trips every two weeks for his second dialysis port to be flushed. We are also trying to move to a home where he can do his own dialysis treatment, which would make a huge difference in his comfort and care.
Jacob is in kidney failure and also faces coronary artery disease. He needs a kidney transplant and will soon undergo his second open heart surgery. The costs are overwhelming—between gas for travel, food, moving expenses, bills, medical bills, and medication copays, I am struggling to keep up, even though I work full time. I simply do not make enough to cover everything we need to get Jacob the care he deserves.
Jacob worked as a scaffold builder for about 20 years and also served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder for the Carlyss Fire Department. He has always been there for our family—wiping tears, kissing boo-boos, hugging away fears, and loving us all unconditionally, even on his worst days. He is my best friend, my husband, the father of our children, and the grandfather of our grandchild. We love him more than words can express. My heart is breaking, and I am in so much grief that I can no longer contain my tears. Jacob is such a blessing to us all, and I am reaching out for help to support him through this incredibly difficult time. Any support means the world to us.
