My son Jackson is 24 years old. Late last year our family's world changed when he was diagnosed with alveolar soft part sarcoma, a cancer so rare it accounts for less than 1% of all soft tissue sarcomas and affects only one person in every 10 million each year. Most doctors will never see a single case in their entire career.

Jackson had surgery to remove the main tumour, but it has left him unable to properly use his arm and hand. He is now working through rehabilitation to try to regain that function, a long and exhausting process on top of everything else he is already dealing with.

We thought getting the tumour out meant we were through the worst of it, but the cancer had already spread to his lungs. He is now having regular immunotherapy at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, where the team is doing everything they can to stop it from progressing further. There is no known cure for alveolar soft part sarcoma and no treatment that reliably works.

Jackson hasn't been able to work since his surgery. Between recovering, rebuilding the use of his arm and hand through rehabilitation, and making the 160 kilometre round trip to Peter Mac for each treatment, working simply isn't possible right now. He is 24 years old, unable to work, and the bills don't stop because you have cancer.

I'm his mum and I set this page up because I want him focusing on getting better rather than stressing about money. Every dollar raised here goes directly to Jackson to help cover his living expenses while he is unable to work.
