To know Jackie is to love her! She is so much more than her medical battles: she’s comedic, quick-witted, deeply intelligent, and the kind of friend who lifts everyone around her. How many of us have laughed until we cried while hanging with Jax? Most people who have met her in recent years, may not even know about the medical struggles she has conquered throughout her lifetime. First, she was born with glaucoma, which necessitated dozens of surgeries at a very young age and honed her ability to make her doctors and nurses love her. Then, a tumor was found in her inner ear, and the organs of her ear were removed, resulting in complete hearing loss in one ear. As if these medical challenges were not enough….

Thirteen years ago, Jackie’s kidneys failed, changing the course of her life in an instant. After a kidney transplant, she met that challenge with grit and determination, returning to work as soon as her body allowed. Even then, the physical demands of full-time work proved taxing, so she made the thoughtful decision to shift to part-time employment to protect her health while continuing to contribute and stay independent. Unfortunately, today she faces another devastating turn: her transplanted kidney is failing. A recent infection attacked the kidney, leaving it scarred and no longer functioning in a life-sustaining way. The road ahead is uncertain, Jackie is fighting a serious bout of pneumonia. After she wins the fight with pneumonia, she will get a port inserted for dialysis. The hope is that Jackie will not have to wait long for a kidney match!

Despite years of managing chronic illness, Jackie has never let it define her. She has poured her heart into supporting her son, Oliver, especially in his theater pursuits—showing up and being his biggest champion. Oliver is now a college freshman, with dreams of studying law. Oliver’s successes are a testament to Jackie’s unwavering love, guidance, and sacrifice.

As Jackie prepares for the road ahead, she needs help covering essential expenses during this incredibly difficult time. Funds raised will go toward her rent, a home healthcare aide, and everyday incidentals that quickly add up when health becomes your full-time job.
